Bio•Matic The true and complete story of the Mojomatics is a long and twisted one, but here's what we know so far: Manny FoglioHarmonica/Lead vocals Purportedly raised by wolves. Has a penchant for spontaneous self combustion. Spent his formative years at the Dan Lynch Sunday blues jams in NYC, where he succumbed to enough head cuttings to render him impervious to stage fright and peer intimidation. Can vocally wreak havoc on PA speakers. Major influences - all of the Chicago giants - Muddy, Chester, the Walters, the Sonny Boys, Cotton, Junior Wells, Magic Sam, Otis Rush, Jimmy Reed, George Smith, etc. Prefers his liquor to be brown and his harmonicas made from wood. Occasionally answers to the moniker of his alter-ego, the mysterious Manko Vukic. And 'vuk' means 'wolf' - DON'T you forget that! Bill BarrettGuitar The Illustrious Mr. Beebs. Co-founder of the band. Studied under the tutelage of Linc Chamberland. Decidedly an electric guitarist in the style of the three Kings, he's been doing it to death for over 35 years. Met Manny in 1978 and it's been downhill ever since. When pressed for an explanation of the Mojomatics' longevity, the introspective Beebs jovially quips, "We're too stupid to stop!" Paul GabrielGuitar Grandpappy - the elder statesman, Gabe has played with the Mojomatics since 1983. Took a little hiatus in the eighties to lead the band "Blue in the Face", which released 3 albums to critical acclaim and shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the blues world. Never too far from a Jack Daniels and a vintage guitar. Despite his honorary membership in this seedy lot, Gabe is also reknowned as a singer/songwriter of considerable merit, and heads up his own top-notch band. Check out his whole story here. Scott LoganDrums/vocals Another avowed vintage equipment addict, Scotty just doesn't understand the concept of having too many drums. Joined this ragged bunch back in 1991 and has continued to look back through brown-colored glasses ever since. Can lay a high register vocal over just about anything, ala Mama Reed. Owner of Libby, the harmonica-hating mojo mascot. Bart RichardsBass/vocals This evil poindexter came into the midst of this mayhem circa 1988. Somewhat cantankerous at times, but we love him just the same. Cuz he knows how to make that bass sound good. Along with Scotty, he adds a vocal element to the band which enables frequent ventures into the R&B zone. Tim MurphyBass Hey, is Tim growing dreadlocks? Holds the Guinness record for having played bass in more blues bands than anyone in Connecticut. A born again bachelor, let it be known that no woman is safe at our gigs when Mr. Murphy is about. |
